33. player. 44. . RB. Oregon State. Terron Ward

Every year it seems that Atlanta Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff is able to find value in undrafted free agents.  One of those guys getting a ton of buzz already in Falcons Training Camp is rookie RB Terron Ward, formerly of the Oregon State Beavers.  OSU is a familiar program to Rise Up Nation as that was the alma mater of both former RBs Steven Jackson and Jacquizz Rodgers.

Coach Quinn believes that Ward has adjusted to the NFL’s pace so wonderfully is that he played for a former NFL coach in Corvallis, former San Diego Chargers Coach Mike Riley who is now taking over the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Big Ten.  So Terron played for a respected collegiate coach and took snaps from one of the best passers in college football last season in Sean Mannion, now with the St. Louis Rams.

Where Ward can begin to make a name for himself is in tonight’s game as both featured backs Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman are coming back from hamstring injuries.  Ward will join Antone Smith and Jerome Smith in the Atlanta backfield tonight.  While most expect Tone to make the team as the 3rd string back, Terron Ward could usurp Jerome Smith on the Falcons RB depth chart with strong performances in these preseason games.

Even if he does fall short of making the 53-man roster, I expect that Dan Quinn would like to hold on to Terron Ward and opt for him to play on the Atlanta Falcons practice squad.  In Kyle Shanahan’s zone blocking scheme, how Ward performs in space will decide if he makes the 53-man roster this season.
